Fatshion 101: Happy French National Day... Vol 1 Issue 2

In  my Frenchy-Carrie-ish Skirt... And a pop of red!
In honor of French National Day, today's 2nd FATSHION post is all about this striped skirt from Forever 21...

Have I ever told y'all how I feel about stripes...

Well... If I haven't... I'm telling you now! I Loooooooooove Stripes!

So, please, imagine my heartbreak, at 13 years old reading a magazine and being told that because I am pear shaped I shouldn't wear stripes! (I'm still not sure who the eff came up with these terms but I like to say that I have a woman's shape)

So for about a year, I refused to wear stripes even though they were some of my favorite items of clothing...
I would fulfill my cravings by wearing striped purses, socks and/or shoes-

And then there was this pink and green striped shirt with a white lined collar... I was in love... but the words written on that stupid magazine kept on circulating in my head...

I'm not sure what it was or what came over me but I said fuck it- and bought it! And I wore it on a So-Cal trip with my Upward Bound peers and got so many compliments...

Whether it was the shirt or my confidence- I'm not sure- but from that day forth nothing ever stopped me from wearing stripes!

Fast forward to a little over 10 years later... On our trip to Paris last year, all I wanted to do was wear this skirt, like Carrie wore that awesome blouse on her first day in Paris, so I did and I felt so Frenchie! And I wore striped shoes, because high heels in Paris just were not practical but for this post... hell yeah!

This skirt is fabulous for so many reasons, but here are my top three:

1. Its black and white (my two ultimate favorite color combination because they're so versatile and you can have fun with accessories and make up and shoes! Like these awesome red pumps!)

2. You can wear this skirt in an empire waist style to accentuate your waist (Only thing is, that my butt lifts it from the back so I have to be extra careful or wear tights before I moon everyone) Or you can wear it at your hips with a light sweater and/or my favorite go to denim jacket.

3. And if you haven't guessed by now, It's a Striped Skirt! Duh!

*Bonus* It has pockets!

That is all,

'Til next Tuesday,

Toodles

Fatshion 101: Return of National Polka Dot Day

Happy New Year's Y'all! I am happy to be back! I am happy that it's the beginning of the year when the days feel refreshed and reinvigorated. I am not so much of the "new year, new me" attitude BUT a new year does represent a much more glacier pace of life for me. I kinda fell off the face of the Earth or at least my blog since September 2018... October, our birthday month was superbusy, November at work is an insane time and December is for the holidays sooooooo by the end of the year - I am just waiting with bated breath for new years! Aaaaaaaand January is also home to one of my favoritest days of the year! National Polka Dot Day! In honor of the the Polka Dot Queen herself, Minnie Mouse! If it has dots! I want it! I got it! ;-) And dude!!! I celebrated in what I can only describe as pants sent from heaven! They are from Zara and I bought them ON SALE, maybe six months ago and they come in XXL! I fell in love with them the minute I put them on SO ...

EDC 2016: Modesty, nudity and feminism

Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent Give it to me to go to Vegas and come back more of an empowered feminist than ever! Damn right! First of all... (clap, clap) Let's get something straight! (clap-clap)) My anxiety/insecurity prior to this Vegas Wedding slash EDC thing had NOTHING to do with my body!!! (CLAP) I struggle with finding nudity an empowering source! And not because I'm fat but because I've always been a believer in less is more - in where, the less skin I show, the more enticing and the more empowered I feel. Yeah! Ladies and gents! It's possible! And an argument can be made of the same saying; Less is more - The less clothing you wear the more enticing and empowered you can feel! And I say "I struggle" with 'empowering nudity' because we are bombarded with nudity everywhere we look - We are meant to be made to believe that we should all be comfortable with nudity - well I hate to break it to y'all but - nah! I've written ...

Fatshion 101: Learning to Live with Intent and Balance

Note: I started writing this blog in March while on our way Home to the Happiest Place on Earth ---days before resigning from my job of six years... I’ve always enjoyed my time sitting at a desk looking out a window… Which is probably why as I sit thousands of feet above the sky I am inspired to pull out my laptop (That I’ve packed to finish work emails – on my day off)  but  as I type those words- I’ve chosen to f*ck that sh*t – I am going to use my laptop to blog! I am a little  conflicted on where to start –  I’ve had these thoughts, these words, this blog on my mind for a long time… (Clears throat: it has been well over a year since my last blogpost) I haven’t written for fun in ages and I know myself well enough to know that I shouldn’t have taken such a long break from journaling/blogging (Friendly FYI – I maintain a handwritten journal in addition to my blog) But even before the summer 2019 I stopped all forms of journaling completely – I insta-s...
