Fatshion 101: A Modest Fat Woman in Vegas

The face I made when my hubby said, "We're going on Vacation... to Vegas"
About two weekends ago I was in Vegas baby! *Yeah - no...*

Sorry, I'm pretty sure my sarcasm is seeping through your computer/phone screen.

I am also pretty sure that everyone knows my sarcasm stems from not being a Vegasy type of woman; Vegas is to me as church is to an atheist. What's the point in going when you just don't believe in it...

Vegas is the furthest place from being modest - it's the city of debauchery, excess and grandeur.

So imagine my lack of enthusiasm when I found out that this modest fat woman would be going to a wedding in Vegas and the eye-roll of eye-rolls, heard around the world (or at least in the Perez-Ngo's Little Humble-Abode) when I found out that I'd have to go to EDC.

(Technically speaking, I didn't "have to go" but my hubby is very inclusive and he wanted us to attend EDC together - and he knows that I may be more reluctant to try something new and that I'd eventually see it at as an adventure and would soon be able to enjoy #LillysReluctantEDCadventure.)

And not gonna lie, a part of me was excited - if only to satisfy my Dresstination Shopping tendencies - hehehe

In the weeks prior to our trip I had been window shopping online and had fallen in love with a couple of items of clothing but had no where to wear them to! The horror, I know!

So a wedding seemed like the perfect place to wear this skirt and this crop top!

How gorgeous is this skirt!?! Right! This skirt came up as a suggestion from one of my previous Nordstrom purchases and I just knew it had to be mine.

The skirt has my favorite print - florals... Only with a modern twist by making it a geo-floral print.

And then there's the top I paired the skirt with... It's hard to say which came first, the skirt or the top - I can't remember - call it shopper's amnesia.

This Bow Cuttout Back-Top was short enough for the skirt and long enough to remain appropriate for a wedding and then - and then I saw the back of the top - and I immediately put it in my shopping cart and purchased. And here it is...

Bows! Bows! Bows! I'm telling y'all - it's all in the deets! Available at Forever 21+

I had to purchase in a 2x because it was the smallest size available and I wish I had taken a picture of before and after so you could see how fitting and tailoring changes an outfit completely! (Perhaps a future Fatshion post - and an excuse to shop;-) I had the top taken in at the waist and hemmed in the front - so that it had more of a high-low look.

I bought the skirt in a "small" which is equivalent to a size 16  (this skirt is from a women's plus size designer: City Chic available at Nordstrom) I had to have the skirt taken in at the waist and hemmed. (Fatshion 101 tip: Always go bigger because items can always be taken in;-) And finally, the shoes are Bamboo (only $30!) from a boutique in Willow Glenn named Ibiss.

Who is that creepers... oh! #ThatsMyHusVinh
Now, much to my hubby's disappointment, I didn't go braless; I wore one of my lingerie bras (purchased years ago) and I pull the straps as far down as I could - so as to not be visible and voila! Here's a picture - to have you better understand.

I wear the skirt up to my waistline - thus the skirt covers up the bra, just enough (As you can see in the pictures above)

Going braless was just not going to be an option, I tried pretty much all sticky, strapless, nude cups out there and nothing could really hold my breastesses-ish..

These "bras" could hold them in place - only if  I stayed in place but not while I was dancing... so no bueno:-(

The idea of wearing this bra struck me when I NEEDED a "backless" bra that worked for another blouse I was planning to wear.

You see, we had been told there would be nights of clubbing, as pre and post wedding events - so I needed something to hold my breastesses in place.

And that's when this blouse came into my life! A black-backless and cut-out top!

Awgh a perfect match made in clubbing heaven- I originally planned to wear with red heels and this necklace but instead I wore it for a double-date dinner at Todd English's Olives (super yummy - if you ever go - you must order the cajun mac'n'cheese - ordered by my husbands's friend and by far the best dish) We then went for a stroll through Vegas - which is why I wore with black sandals and my gold chain necklace, instead.

Gorgeous and Comfortable!!!
I don't normally say it - mainly because I know I can be cute and adorable - but  if I think of myself as sexy - - - I BLUSH - but damn it - I can't deny this one - I felt... dare I say... SEXY! If you wanna give it a whirl, it's still available at ASOS and is now on sale!

I threw modesty out the window and felt fabulous - - - and then we saw a woman in a nude-sheer bandaged body suit and I felt my modesty intact. lol!

Finally for EDC, but certainly not least, I had an opportunity to wear my bralette (The most liberating of all bras!) and this gorgeous sheer black maxi cardi-dress (that I've only worn one other time - and have been dying to wear again)!

I wanted to be comfortable because of the hell-ish heat and that meant I had to wear shorts! I haven't worn shorts in over 7+ years - at least any shorts that go above the knee. The theme was Disney (i didn't choose it, I swear;-) - I went as the most fabulous villain - Maleficent.

This black maxi cardi-dress is just FABULOUS and airy - my favorite feature of the dress is that flowing affect it has when walking, as pictured on the left) BUT there were too many unidentified fluids on the ground and I was forced to tie it up to the side.

The bralette is from Forever 21+ (Size 0x-1x), The shorts and maxi cardi-dress is from Target (both size XL).

As much as I dis-enjoy Vegas (Disneyland please, ASAP), I surprisingly enjoyed myself in Vegas by doing the most of mundane things (those remote control drapes at the Aria hotel - I WANT) - I am super gratedul for my hubby's friends - who helped each other to make the best of it.

I also got to buy some pretty 'bossin' outfits, we shared new adventures and laughed the whole way through from beginning to end and in this life, when we're laughing, we're living a good day and a good time.

That is all,

Toodles.

Mrs. Lilly Perez-Ngo

Fatshion 101: Return of National Polka Dot Day

Happy New Year's Y'all! I am happy to be back! I am happy that it's the beginning of the year when the days feel refreshed and reinvigorated. I am not so much of the "new year, new me" attitude BUT a new year does represent a much more glacier pace of life for me. I kinda fell off the face of the Earth or at least my blog since September 2018... October, our birthday month was superbusy, November at work is an insane time and December is for the holidays sooooooo by the end of the year - I am just waiting with bated breath for new years! Aaaaaaaand January is also home to one of my favoritest days of the year! National Polka Dot Day! In honor of the the Polka Dot Queen herself, Minnie Mouse! If it has dots! I want it! I got it! ;-) And dude!!! I celebrated in what I can only describe as pants sent from heaven! They are from Zara and I bought them ON SALE, maybe six months ago and they come in XXL! I fell in love with them the minute I put them on SO ...

EDC 2016: Modesty, nudity and feminism

Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent Give it to me to go to Vegas and come back more of an empowered feminist than ever! Damn right! First of all... (clap, clap) Let's get something straight! (clap-clap)) My anxiety/insecurity prior to this Vegas Wedding slash EDC thing had NOTHING to do with my body!!! (CLAP) I struggle with finding nudity an empowering source! And not because I'm fat but because I've always been a believer in less is more - in where, the less skin I show, the more enticing and the more empowered I feel. Yeah! Ladies and gents! It's possible! And an argument can be made of the same saying; Less is more - The less clothing you wear the more enticing and empowered you can feel! And I say "I struggle" with 'empowering nudity' because we are bombarded with nudity everywhere we look - We are meant to be made to believe that we should all be comfortable with nudity - well I hate to break it to y'all but - nah! I've written ...

Fatshion 101: Learning to Live with Intent and Balance

Note: I started writing this blog in March while on our way Home to the Happiest Place on Earth ---days before resigning from my job of six years... I’ve always enjoyed my time sitting at a desk looking out a window… Which is probably why as I sit thousands of feet above the sky I am inspired to pull out my laptop (That I’ve packed to finish work emails – on my day off)  but  as I type those words- I’ve chosen to f*ck that sh*t – I am going to use my laptop to blog! I am a little  conflicted on where to start –  I’ve had these thoughts, these words, this blog on my mind for a long time… (Clears throat: it has been well over a year since my last blogpost) I haven’t written for fun in ages and I know myself well enough to know that I shouldn’t have taken such a long break from journaling/blogging (Friendly FYI – I maintain a handwritten journal in addition to my blog) But even before the summer 2019 I stopped all forms of journaling completely – I insta-s...
