Fatshion 101: Dapper Day at Disneyland 2018

In our attempt to have a new adventure for every month of 2018- April's adventure proved to be this Disnerd's millionth and one reason to love the Disney Life even more!

I've been asked for years! Don't you get bored? Isn't it the same shit each time? It's the same park from when we were kids... Blah, blah, blah

Each time, I have to internalize MAJOR eyerolls!

I love Disneyland parks! It could be the same shit and I would still have fun, but the thing about Disneyland, you can visit the park for a week straight and still not see and do everything, so each visit there's a chance to do experience something new.

Now, before y'all accuse me of selling you Disneyland, I am just setting up our adventure for the month of April because how the eff can I say Disneyland is a part of our new adventure a month quest... WELL we've been visiting the park as a couple for 11 years and somehow we always find something new to do. ..

But there's one particular event that we've never been able to attend because of my work schedule but this year I was determined to FINALLY attend Dapper Day.

Dapper Day is a fan created dress up event where it's exactly what it sounds like - you join hundreds if not thousands of other park fans in your best-nostalgic-dapper drapes!

As soon as I asked for the day off we began to brainstorm how or who we would #DisneyBound for #DapperDay ? #ThinkingEmojiHere

And after I saw this post on IG from @nicolettemason in this dress from @modcloth -

1. I needed to have this dress solely because I need to have this dress and
2. I thought this dress would be a great starting point for Belle, Daisy or a Jane Disney Bound.

We finally narrowed it down to Beauty and the Beast because it would be easier for the hubby to find an outfit (THE DAY BEFORE THE TRIP)

Though in the end we ended up looking like Warrior's fans at Dapper Day but heck, it worked.

This dress is so perfect! I want to own it in every color, every pattern so that I could wear it everyday!

Tale as Old as Time - we procrastinated but all's well that ends well - I mean not too shabby, when I had to put his outfit together the night before we left - at Target!

People thought I was Jane from Tarzan - I'll take it - I love her too!

The dress is from Modcloth and it was a pretty penny... $70... It was too perfect and it was our first ever Dapper Day - so I had too! I normally only admire the items from Modcloth - too rich for my blood but I just had to have this piece.

Shoes are from TJMaxx circa 2017

Parasol from Amazon 👈🏽 LOVE

Hair bow from @claires

Earrings from @insomniac_creations bought at the expo

We attended Dapper Day with friends and mutual enthusiasts of Dapper Day, photographed below.

There's nothing much to book for Dapper Day besides the expo tickets but we "bought" ours on the day of... (We borrowed our friends' bracelets)

Our friends also provided us with a special website to book a Disneyland Resort Hotel at a major discounted price!

So we said what the hey! We booked the Grand California Hotel (and because we procrastinated, it was the only one left... We're more fans of the classic Disneylan hotel)

And though our trips to Disneyland are quick getaways, I like to make room for some relaxarion time! AND nothing says relaxation like food and drinks by the pool!

Bathing suit is from SwimsuitsForAll x Gabi Fresh

At the expo, I bought a cute polka-dot headband that I used the day before (not photographed;( and then tied it to my purse for the actual Dapper Day.

I have no idea how other folks were making due with their dapper shoes but after a few hours of hot weather, sweat and the sliding back and forth - I got a pretty nasty blister and had to get a bandaid from First Aid and switched to sandals.

Luckily we were staying at a Disneyland resort so the hubby just had to walk a few feet away to drop off my shoes (so we didn't have carry them for the rest of the day but the alternative would've been a locker)

We were also at the Park to take in Pixar Fest, our last meal at The Cove Bar (permanently closed at the end of April)

And finally, but not least - for one of the best fireworks show “Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular”

It's a NEW fireworks show and STILL manages to keep the heart and soul of Disneyland! Pixar is like the new kid that saved Disney movie studios! And has provided a facelift for the parks and the movies!

It's about time the new classics got the recognition they so deserved! The fireworks show is on my top three! Only coming in third because Halloween is #1 and the Holiday fireworks are #2!

Here are some of my favorite parts: One can be viewed in the very first 20 seconds! A delightful surprise I wasn't expecting! And then at 4:00 minutes, COCO! The excitement in the crowd is palpable! (Sidebar: I can just imagine how bezerk people will go for a Black Panther feature...)  Okay - then at 7:05 I nearly lost it because that scene in Toy Story 3 really epitomizes love for the family we get to choose for ourselves and they clinch it with laughter! And awwwwhhhh but then the bastards really had me losing my shit as I cried on Main Street at 7:50 - I can't here those piano keys without tearing up! As I am currently doing as I write this - and the surprise within that segment - the gasp everyone around you takes is MAGICAL ;-) And at 8:35 - I was practically sobbing!

I can't wait to see it again and again and again!

Disneylander tip: My recommendation is to watch the fireworks from the end of main Street close to the Kodak center. You get to see Main Street, USA, light up with screen projections and some surprises!

Okay so before we left I thought I would dapper it up one ore time with a modern twist - this jumper is from Target and I am wearing an XXL - the only con is that it doesn't come in more colors and patterns and that it's a bit tricky to go to the bathroom ;-)

Sun's out, boater hat time!

The trip was tons of fun and we can't wait to renew our APs for the opening of Pixar Pier and for many, many, many, years to come, always discovering new adventures at the Happiest Place in Earth.

That is all-

'Til next time.

Toodles,

Lilly Perez-Ngo

PS - My May adventure is post-poned til further notice - I REALLY  wanted to get a new tattoo of a mermaid but I don't wanna rush nor do I have the Dee-nero - lol! I also need to do extensive research for the actual mermaid to get tattoo'd. That shit's permanent and I need to make sure I LOVE IT! And I don't want an arbitrary deadline set by me to screw me over ;-)

Fatshion 101: Return of National Polka Dot Day

Happy New Year's Y'all! I am happy to be back! I am happy that it's the beginning of the year when the days feel refreshed and reinvigorated. I am not so much of the "new year, new me" attitude BUT a new year does represent a much more glacier pace of life for me. I kinda fell off the face of the Earth or at least my blog since September 2018... October, our birthday month was superbusy, November at work is an insane time and December is for the holidays sooooooo by the end of the year - I am just waiting with bated breath for new years! Aaaaaaaand January is also home to one of my favoritest days of the year! National Polka Dot Day! In honor of the the Polka Dot Queen herself, Minnie Mouse! If it has dots! I want it! I got it! ;-) And dude!!! I celebrated in what I can only describe as pants sent from heaven! They are from Zara and I bought them ON SALE, maybe six months ago and they come in XXL! I fell in love with them the minute I put them on SO ...

EDC 2016: Modesty, nudity and feminism

Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent Give it to me to go to Vegas and come back more of an empowered feminist than ever! Damn right! First of all... (clap, clap) Let's get something straight! (clap-clap)) My anxiety/insecurity prior to this Vegas Wedding slash EDC thing had NOTHING to do with my body!!! (CLAP) I struggle with finding nudity an empowering source! And not because I'm fat but because I've always been a believer in less is more - in where, the less skin I show, the more enticing and the more empowered I feel. Yeah! Ladies and gents! It's possible! And an argument can be made of the same saying; Less is more - The less clothing you wear the more enticing and empowered you can feel! And I say "I struggle" with 'empowering nudity' because we are bombarded with nudity everywhere we look - We are meant to be made to believe that we should all be comfortable with nudity - well I hate to break it to y'all but - nah! I've written ...

Fatshion 101: Learning to Live with Intent and Balance

Note: I started writing this blog in March while on our way Home to the Happiest Place on Earth ---days before resigning from my job of six years... I’ve always enjoyed my time sitting at a desk looking out a window… Which is probably why as I sit thousands of feet above the sky I am inspired to pull out my laptop (That I’ve packed to finish work emails – on my day off)  but  as I type those words- I’ve chosen to f*ck that sh*t – I am going to use my laptop to blog! I am a little  conflicted on where to start –  I’ve had these thoughts, these words, this blog on my mind for a long time… (Clears throat: it has been well over a year since my last blogpost) I haven’t written for fun in ages and I know myself well enough to know that I shouldn’t have taken such a long break from journaling/blogging (Friendly FYI – I maintain a handwritten journal in addition to my blog) But even before the summer 2019 I stopped all forms of journaling completely – I insta-s...
